Drakekeeper gets points for one of the longest, reliable and easy to use greataxes. R1 R1 is good for roll catching, but don't abuse it. That could end up with being parried.If you are asking for PVE anything you like works. Ashen Warrior Sword (Low Durability), Fume Sword, Sunlight Sword (You have Faith so check it.) and Longsword are the best straight swords to check first. Please be reminded that there is higher or lower types of same letter scaling in this game.

If you are melee and want a weapon buff, simple magic (aromatic ooze) and lightning (gold pine resin) are the best. (Don't infuse the weapon, it'll weaken it, just use these buffing tools.) If you want to shoot stuff, then magic, poison or fire for arrows, dark for spells (a.k.a. hexes).

The greatsword is one of the better here. For dex (and the more common pvp weapons) I'd say ice rapier (already mentioned), chaos blade, uchigatana/washing pole, longsword (more quality but whatever), Ricards rapier, flexile sentry curved sword (warped sword if I remember correctly), dual wield shotel & estoc for turtles.
